New claims of recently fallen comrades of Gaza’s Jund Ansar Allah – or?

The title may be misleading, how can I use the term comrade for the Jund Ansar Allah (JAA) ‘martyrs’? Well, with the – as usual – picturesque propaganda machinery of individual users who disseminate their user generated content after acquiring a picture or two, some propaganda posters do seem familiar from historical documents…

On 10 January 2010 more members of the JAA had been killed, according to the propagandistic outlets, and are commemorated in mostly jpeg formats online. The attention turned once again to the JAA, who in August under the leadership of Rafah based cleric Abu Nur al-Maqdisi (Abd al-Latif Musa) declared an Islamic Caliphate following AQ principles and guidelines in Gaza. Naturally, Hamas didn’t like the idea and its al-Qassam Brigades moved in, swept the mosque and killed pretty much anyone they could find. Since then Hamas is clearly just another “idol” serving the “Jews and Crusaders” and so on. The Ibn Taymiya mosque had been seriously damaged by Hamas forces.

An audio file, the recorded testimony of Hasan al-Qartrawi – aka Abu Maslama – was disseminated together with plenty of pictures. All of this material was declared as JAA and part of the August 2009 declaration of the Islamic Emirate in Gaza. He was killed in an Israeli strike together with at least two other Mujahideen (Awd Abu Nasir and Yusuf Musa).

Other outlets, however, have declared that Qatrawi was a member of their brigade, the al-Quds Brigade – the military wing of the Palestinian Jihad, who published a statement on their website. Another pro Palestinian Jihad forum issued the following, probably taken from Arabic news sources:

“Three Palestinians were ‘martyred’ during the evening of 10 January 2010 in Gaza by Zionist strikes targeting a group of fighters in the middle of the Gaza Strip. Palestinian medical sources in Gaza said that the three ‘martyrs’ are: Awd Nasir, Hasan al-Qatrawi and Hadhifat al-Hams, members of the al-Quds Brigade, the military wing of the Palestinian Jihad. The three fighters had been killed, four have been critically wounded in the Zionist air strike in the Abu al-Ajayn region in the middle of the Gaza Strip.(…) Hasan al-Qatrawi (22) was from the al-Barij refugee camp, Hadhifa (23) had been from the al-Nasirat camp.”

Some of the pictures disseminated are clearly tagged as JAA, ISI and the usual AQ fashion:

Another example of user generated content, incorporated is AQ Iraq’s logo of the “Islamic State of Iraq”. JAA considers itself part of AQ’s global campaign with Palestine as a future zone of the future-caliphate. But beware, this picture surfaced in the usual AQ affiliated jihadist forums and has been tagged according to the particular JAA and AQ ideology. This must not mean that al-Qatrawi was indeed a member of JAA but his death and his rank are simply being exploited by JAA sympathizers and fueled into pro-AQ jihadist forums.

The forums also disseminated pictures like these:

Again, clearly tagging the killed as JAA members adherent to ISI / AQ global ideology. “Assassinated by the hand of the forces of the Zionists during the evening of Sunday on 20 January 2010.”

Furthermore it is claimed that he was “one of the students of Shaykh Abu Nur al-Maqdisi”.

Marked in this picture

This picture may ‘prove’ the ideological proximity of the fighters to the JAA or perhaps indicate either their sympathy or switch to the JAA? Or is Palestinian Jihad in Gaza cooperating with JAA?

And also untagged pictures like these were published, claiming that these two had been members of JAA as well. Pictures like this one have in the mean time inspired more JAA tagged pictures, reinforcing the claim that JAA is still alive and operating in Gaza despite the Hamas raids in August.

The disseminated testimony of al-Qatrawi, as it is claimed and as it was published in jihadist forums, contains partially the adherence to AQ’s global strategy.

The need for “the sword” is emphasized just as much as his need to fight. This contains the ‘why we fight’ section, where he states that “we don’t fight due to the state of the Arab idol [Arab regimes] or the emplacement of the Western idol, not due to the drawn borders of the Sykes-Picot pact, but we fight for that the highest may be the word of God. So the American Muslim is our beloved brother, the Palestinian apostate is our enemy.”

He sends out a message to the other jihad hotspots naming Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Kashmir and states “that your blood is our blood; your wounded are our wounded. By God we won’t abandon you” fighting till the very end. The leadership of AQ is praised and paid allegiance to, UBL, Zawahiri and Abu Umar al-Baghdadi are named and cherished as “the command of the global Jihad”.

Abu Dujana on YouTube

Didn’t take long for the video being uploaded on YouTube – by multiple users on multiple channels, re-publishing the video over and over again. Abu Dujana’s video as it was published within the jihadist forums and Abu Dujana repeats his statement to “strike at the US, within and without” its territory.

More congratulations to the bombing of the US base in Khost, Afghanistan

Just another note on another congratulation done by one of the higher level members of just another jihadist forum, by a “general director” called Abu Ayman. He congratulates the

“lion for the blessed outstanding operation, the beloved high spirited and daring Humam Khalil Muhammad Abu Malal Abu Dujana al-Khorasani, may God accept him as a shahid who destroyed all the intelligence services and crushed their images and their security measures of which the Crusaders and their henchmen are so proud of, after its shaking and crushing down of their image [as being effective], that had been destroyed by his brother ‘Umar al-Faruq al-Nigeri.

On this pulpit we congratulate the general media command of jihad and on its leader the Shaykh Abu ‘Abdallah Usama bin Laden, we also congratulate the wife of the shahid as we deem him to be, but only God has the authority to judge upon him, and we incite ourselves and our brothers that the calls [to move out into jihad] either lightly or heavily, for that we may become active part of Mujahid works, contributing to the support; for that we may not be [passive] spectators, abstaining from jihad and being leftover.”

The short posting is concluded by eulogizing remarks, asking God to accept Abu Dujana into the highest level of Paradise and such, while praising his endeavor and his mission again.

And again… we find some fan art to go along with such initial postings that lead to longer threads with most members simply congratulating or repeatedly overstating their happiness about such operations and messages. But some of the user are uploading their own pictures – as we see here: Islamic State of Iraq logo in combination with the picture that the creator has stolen from Aljazeera or other media outlets.

Abu Dujana Video

Within the usual jihadist forums a video now has been released showing Abu Dujana speaking about his allegiance to UBL and Baytullah Mehsud, who was killed and for whom he undertook the suicide mission killing seven CIA agents and one member of the Jordanian intelligence service. This 90second long video was released earlier today.

Abu Dujana extensively speaks out to revenge Baytullah Mehsud and eulogizes Baytullah Mehsud, while sitting next to a quite Hakimullah Mehsud, who is acknowledged by Abu Dujana as the legitimate new leader. He addresses “this message to the enemies of the umma, the intelligence services of the US and Jordan, I am a migrant on the path of God” and thus he set out to fight the very enemies he just mentioned. “I am a mujahid on the path of God, not selling religion”. “Our amir, Baytullah Mehsud, we will not forget you, by God we won’t forget you, ever!” UBL is also praised, who, according to Abu Dujana “is not within our territory”.

In another video, taken from Aljazeera, short sequences of Abu Dujana are shown as well, that appear not in the original video above.

Baytullah Mehsud’s corpse – and the successful revenge operation against a high value target of the enemy, committed by Abu Dujana.

There is probably more material to be expected in the near future.

Fan art rolling in…

With the one and only picture suicide bomber of the US Forward Operation Base Chapman in Khost, Afghanistan, the first pictures in a stylish version disseminated in jihadist forums are increasing. The picture of Abu Dujana al-Khurasani, as he was known within jihadist writings, but known under his real name Humam Khalil Abu Malal al-Balawi in real life, is being – as usual – eulogized and re-published in various ideological formats. Here are two recent examples:

“Tearing / burning down the fortress of the Americans”

More in regard of FOB bomber Abu Dujana

With approval, praise and statements coming from al-Yazid, one of the “general command” members of AQ, the GIMF and of course the forums, now al-Fajr is issuing another edition regarding the “last writings of the mujahid Abu Dujana al-Khurasani”, who blew himself up on 30 December 2009 in FOB Chapman in Khost, Afghanistan, killing seven CIA agents and one Jordanian intelligence agent.

His wife has in the meantime, according to The Jordan Times, addressed how proud she is:

“The wife of a double agent who killed seven CIA officers in a suicide attack in Afghanistan said on Thursday her husband regarded the United States as an enemy and she was proud of his mission.” (http://jordantimes.com/?news=23003)

There will be more eulogies, perhaps a video, writings and postings within the forums in the coming weeks ahead of us.

Another one bites the dust – on Facebook

Online jihad has been quite ambitious and professional on the internet – in the past years. In the last two, three years, it did increase to a great extend, including by crafting and infiltrating various groups within social networks such as facebook and co. One fine example on how Facebook was and is exploited by AQ & co is the group that was hosted by the Facebook member “fi sabeel Allah”, who subsequently uploaded pictures and provides links to various AQ videos taken from the multitude of jihadist online forums, blogs, websites. Most ambitious, fans, followers and sympathizers of “fi sabeel Allah”, who is also active within most jihadist forums, created their own pictures, that they then uploaded to this facebook group. This group is offline since several days now (I wonder why) and the reaction by the group creator, as he identifies himself, Jamshaid Malik, is somewhat pissed off at this and yet – well, it’s the internet, right? – to resurrect a new group on Facebook soon.

Online Jihad is not new. Now, in 2010, Jihadists have increased their experience on both the practical (fighting) front and the theoretical (ideological and dissemination by means of the internet) front – both fronts are based on decades of practice and the need to respond, that mostly started and was sparked by the events of Afghanistan in the 1980s. It is a dynamical process and perhaps wanna-be suicide-bombers such as Umar Faruq are for sure a minority who follow a distorted view of Islam, but this distorted view is wisely and professionally disseminated will continue to influence and radicalized more such individuals. It is global phenomenon, but also a global response that is set by this self-determined avant-garde who claim to speak and fight in the name of Islam. The dynamical process inspired and enabled by the internet does lead to such groups, such as the “fi sabeel allah” on Facebook.

Some example pictures taken from the group:

Nicely done by online sympathizers who have the IT-fluency to create such propaganda and thus become part of the adhered propaganda

Who don’t you know in this picture?

Another battlefield: Iraq. And another ‘Islamic’ group fighting for justice, peace and security: The Islamic State of Iraq.

With the standoff between Hamas and the Jund Ansar Allah in August in Gaza, the dead, killed by the al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas, are being praised and cherished on the internet. Also by users within this group, who took and in parts modified pictures of the fallen in such a manner.

Online jihad is up-to-date.

Interactive in terms of consuming and multiplying contends of newly released videos, writings and photographs. In this case, “the American” in Somalia spoke in a audio recording with Arabic subtitles and the pictures was instantly transported through jihadist channels and ended up in outlets such as this one on Facebook.

Screenshot of the group. Now, with this group having been removed, it will for sure re-emergence in one way or another.

And the claimed admin of the group bitching about its take down… “The sniper of AQ” is trying to calm him down… although I don’t think he quite understands the problem.

New statement from AQ in regard of attempted X-Mas bomber

In the name of the (originally Yemeni – now Arab Peninsula) AQ media outlet Sada al-Malahim (“The Echo of Fierce Battles / Massacres / Heroic Epics / …”) issued another, short, statement in form of a posting in the Jihadist forums:

Again, the same picture, nothing new – however, Faruq is being congratulated again for his actions. A bit bizarre, Faruq’s status is actually “istishhadi”, despite the fact that he didn’t proceed in killing himself in the aspired ‘martyrdom’ operation. But the effort is celebrated of his “unprecedented operation in the American aircraft , having departed in Amsterdam, Holland, on the way to the US city of Detroit.” His Parents are also congratulated. The father did report his son to the authorities… again, somewhat bizarre, but what counts it the feeling of having archived something while in motion of ‘defense’ and ‘restoration’ as set by the comprising AQ ideology.

The Sada al-Malahim logo beneath the congratulatory names of the elite of international jihadism – ranging from UBL and Zawahiri to the Yemeni leadership under al-Wuhayshi as well as Abu Yahya al-Libi from Afpak and the rising star (that has already credentials) ‘Atiyat Allah al-Libi.

“We love you by God oh responsible heroes of al-Malahim – for it’s the organization of AQ… for the religion of God defending and for His sharia seeking.”

Pictures… and the internet

One of al-Qaeda strong points is its constant presence as a media group online. With plenty of sympathizers absorbing AQ propaganda videos and writings, it may be no surprise that these sympathizers generate their own content as an reaction and as a response to current and general AQ related broadcastings.

Here are some pictures of the wanna-be suicide bomber Farouk:

The original – from the written statement issued by AQ on the Arab Peninsula (now primarily in Yemen)

One bad, bad example… poorly cut out and compiled…

Farouk with Assiri, the suicide bomber who tried to kill Saudi Prince Nayef in August 2009; he also used a new bomb device, was able to board an airplane to Jeddah and to bypass the Prince’s security installments. He failed to kill the Saudi interior minister but succeeded in killing himself.

Part of this picture is the logo of the Islamic State of Iraq in the top middle.

And another example – note the ISI logo and another picture taken from the written original statement.

More Hamas-bashing from jihadist forums

The August 2009 stand-off between the pro AQ group Jund Ansar Allah (JAA) and Hamas in the Gaza-strip has led to a continued Hamas-bashing within jihadist forums and from sympathizers who in the meantime have issued a great deal of anti-Hamas documents and videos. Being branded as a “traitors to the umma” or “agents of the Zionist agenda” and so forth, Hamas has been widely marked as a hostile group and part of the global “war on Islam” – on the side of those, who wage war with the Crusaders and the Zionist and who-have-you.

After the JAA issued a video in August, showing attacks against infrastructure and IED’s transported by JAA Mujahidin on horses, a attentive AQ sympathizer observed and claims that Hamas stole these IED’s from the JAA after the al-Qassam Brigades moved into JAA’s HQ in the Ibn Taymiya Mosque on August 17 killing most of JAA’s members and their ideological and practical leader Abu Nur al-Maqdisi (‘Abd al-Latif Musa).

There the sympathizer “recommends to you all to spread [these pictures] as being part of a collection on the crimes of Hamas and its treacherous behavior. (…) Here are new pictures of Hamas criminal soldiers, who murder Muslims, in their military parade in the Nasirat region. They are carrying the IED’s of the Mujahidin [JAA] in this parade.”

A picture of a JAA Mujahid who is making his horse ready to deploy the IED’s in JAA’s video issued in July/August 2009.

Here are the members of the al-Qassam Brigades, who swiped the Ibn Taymiyya mosque in Rafah in August 2009 killing most of JAA members and their leader, Abu Nur al-Maqdisi. The IED is marked with a red circle by the attentive online jihadist and has titled this picture accordingly (“criminals of the al-Qassam Brigades use the IED’s of those, who confess the unity of God, in the military parade, as a present for the Zionists, who they have found to protect them in Gaza for they are the brigade of crimes and murder those, who confess the unity of God and the ‘ulama, the Mujahidin and the innocents”.

Same story, different picture.

And here is a screenshot to further prove how Hamas steals weapons from the true mujahidin. This screenshot is from the Tawhed and Jihad Group in Jerusalem, who claim that Hamas soldiers seized their rockets intended to be launched against Israeli targets.
