Qawafil ash-Shuhada‘ – the carawans of the shuhada’

So just one video more has surfaced about those, who gave the highest possible proof for their belief: they died, fighting on the path of God and hence are the shuhada’ – which should not be translated as martyr! A grave error, which has led to misunderstand the notion of jihad and islamism.

Remembering the fighters who went fighting in caravans. Join the caravan is a famous statement by Abdallah Azzam, the great mentor of Osama bin Laden – this call (ilhaq al-qafila) can be found throughout the jihadi literature; the meaning is clear: the definition of jihad as an individual duty, obligatory for every muslim and to join the existing fight, so join the caravan and gain one of the two most beautiful things: victory or becoming a shahid.

As usual, the impression of “paradise”, or at least something nice and peacefull. In this case, we have a natural view of what seems to be a mountainous area with forest and a river/lake. Just the right place to dwell for eternity?

How one Abd al-Aziz b. Muhammad (Abu Usama al-Iraqi) has defined and published in his book “the craving of the souls for the women of the land of the greatest joy (a.k.a. paradise)” is work in progress, but expect something soon. It’s a wild mixture of being in a peacefull countrystrip with all the female clients around a man can dream of. Unfortunately this is exact the kind of notion many jihadis dream about – why you ask? The sexuality among the male mujahidin is something we do not have a lot of information, so far I have come across a shahid story from Afghanistan where to a certain extend the beauty of battle with the purity of religion seems to be intertwined (work in progress, sorry for that).

Here it gets really interesting. According to another video, where the chap in the background has a vital part of talking, this Hasan al-Makki is wanted by the saudi intelligence community and has died in Iraq according to some sources. I must add, that I will try to get an update on the issue. This could be a valuable example of the two torrents in Saudi Arabia: the al-Qa’ida cells that wanted to continue to operate in Saudi Arabia (such as al-Muqrin) and those who went to Iraq to fight the far enemy there. Hasan al-Makki is supposed to be from Eritrea.

Transcript of the one and only az-Zarqawi video

The Jihad Media Brigade, which is part of the as-Sahab Media Foundation, has posted the full transcript of the Zarqawi video. This video is the only one that had been published with Zarqawi taking part as bin Laden or Zawahiri regularly do/have done. Of course, bin Laden is not missing, a still is being shown while his speech is to be heard (all in the english transcript as well). Zarqawi’s voice sounds strange – the whole video is a reenacting of his mentors bin Laden and Zawahiri. Sitting in front of the camera, trying to be as serious and profound, he is obviously reading his speech and seems quite insecure about the setting. He is not always clear to understand as his squeky and excited voice goes on informing the viewer about the greatness of the mujahidin. He does close his eyes remarkably often and seems quite insecure about being infront of the camera – but that’s exactly what the terrorists of these days must do, right?

Unfortunately I cannot provide you with a link to his video, which was aired 25.04.2006, but a link to the transcript provided by the Jihad Media Brigade is to be found below. The Jihad Media Brigade come now and then into action, one of their videos was called U.S.A. They are coming, which was released shortly after the Iraq war and showed clips from training and fighting mujahidin from around the world.

Osama bin Laden appears as a still which a speech – to make the abaya (oath) of Zarqawi clear, after some diputes aroused.

The former hustler he is supposed to have been seems quite nervous infront of the camera – trying to reenact OBL and Zawahiri.

Off to the shooting range – a missile is being fired (which have improved since last then).

This what makes the word shura: a council, or if you like, a meeting of choosen leaders, setting new attacks. A laptop is not missing, it is positioned left on the map – for the better planning – probably with google earth on it back then…

Islamic Iraq State claims downing of C-130 in Ramadi

After the recent videos and claims of having downed Apache and Chinook Helicopters, the Islamic Iraq State today claimed to have shot down a C-130 in Ramadi.

Translation of the statement:

Downing of an crusader aircraft, type C-130 in Ramadi:

Basmalla; praise be to God, the lord of the worlds, salvation and peace be with out prophet Muhammad and with his family and all of his companions.

Through God’s kindness an crusader aircraft, type C-130, was downed in the city of Ramadi – the result was that it was destroyed completely, killing everyone who was inside. This was on Wednesday, 14.2.2007 – God is the praise and power.

These operations are part of the al-Karama (dignity, respect, honor) plan, that has been declared by the Amir al-Mu’minin (leader of the faithfull) Abu Omar al-Baghdadi – may God protect him – the leader of the Islamic Iraq State.

-Honor (pride, glory) belong to God, his prophet and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know—[End of translation]

No pictures or video is provided and the media didn’t mention anything aswell. If a C-130 was really shot down by radical elements they would have published at least pictures along with the statement – don’t we know how much jihadis love their cameras…

However CNN arabic confirmes the shooting down of several helicopters by the Islamic Iraq State – this has been all over the news in the past 2 weeks and the jihadis seem very proud that their name Islamic Iraq State is being stated in the arabic CNN report.

Al-Furqan shows the attack on Humvee

Well, yesterday, another al-Furqan video went online showing the attack on a Humvee. This nightoperation is one roadside bombing more. The reason I’am posting this is because of what a member wrote as a reply to the attack (yes, links of the video are at the end of this post):

From the series „the Holocaust of the Americans”

In the province Zabul, Afghanistan, the Mujahidin have struck again – against the Arghandab Post.

This movie is meere propaganda, just like all as-Sahab productions, but this time it’s plain obivious that the alleged base which is being attacked was propobly abondened some time ago by coaltion forces. But make up your own mind (links at the end of the post).

This post, according to the leader of the unit, is of strategic importance: in a valley, in between moutanious areas, it connects several districts and controls the only road.

This movie is about the victory over a militart post, which is supposed to be run by the evil evil Americans (who else?). What makes the movie quite significant is that the Mujahidin, or Taleban seem so be planning this attack very accurately, letting the viewer know whats going on.

The picture shows the landscape crafted by the attackers, in order to explain how the attack should succeed:

Well, so far so good, and the viewer does expect a standoff – the commander informs us that 150 mujadidin will participate in the attack.

They even dispatch a recon unit – something is shown quite often, especially in the Afghan videos, take a look of the supposed checkpoint (close to the base):

If you ask me, it’s already abandoned. Suddenly the recon team has to hide, the speaker informs us about incoming US planes, send to seek and destroy the poor Taliban (notice the boots of this jihadi):

After that US forces arrive on the scene, some vehicles are shown in the video and the planned assault is delayed. Some time later however, the battle beginns as the Taliban are marching towards the target, praising their endurance and patience and finally the “battle” beginns. Mostly shots fired into the dark, no output can be seen – it just seems staged all the way.

The Taliban retreat, all the sudden and return to their HQ – while eating bread and potatoes, the narrator calls upon the rich and wealthy muslim businessmen to donor to the cause of jihad – and to defend “islam” against the pact of infidel nations, a pact forged in order to destroy the true religion of God.

Two more things about the video:

First, the local (male) population speaks “freely” into the camera, claiming to be finally freed of the foreign oppressor who throw people into prison randomly and disallow any freedom of movement.

Second, while inspecting the “conquered” base, the Taliban find tons of empty patotoe chip bags – produced and exported from Saudi Arabia. Now that’s just one more proof how wicked the Saudi royal family is. (Expect some forthcoming extracts from the Sawt al-Jihad soon, as the magazine is full of that anti Saudi notion)

Sawt al-Jihad: Badr ar-Riyadh

An english speaking jihadi forum has announced to relase badr ar-Riyadh with english subtitles soon. Badr ar-Riyadh – the wills of the shuhada’ is a video released by the as-Sahab Media institute and focuses on the May 2003 terror attacks that occurred in Riyadh. The appearance of Osama bin Laden and the testaments of those who took part in the attack compose the main theme.

Muhammad b. Shataf ash-Shehri, Muhammad b. Abd al-Wahab al-Muqit, Hazem b. Muhammad al-Kashmiri, Ashraf b. Ibrahim as-Sayd speak out why they conduct this assault.

The original arabic video was released on 17. October 2003.

Sawt al-Jihad – Introduction

Nurturing the notion of Jihad – a very short introduction

As early as 2003 the Mujahidin of the Arabian Peninsula, also known as the Organization of al-Qa’ida on the Arabian Peninsula, began to spread their concept of belief and concern of their perception of the notion of Jihad by using the Internet. The first al-Qa’ida online magazine Sawt of Jihad (SAG) grew globally – in PDF or WORD format. The magazine is divided in different sections and categories – providing justifications for the actions of the Mujahidin as well as a general call for Jihad, asking the “youth of Islam” to join while insisting in the same time to attack western targets and inviduals within the Arabian Peninsula.

Sawt of Jihad (the Voice of Jihad) managed to publish 29 editions, nearly 1300 pages in total and is also a pioneer to use the internet to publish ideos, audios and more. It served as a information source for all those interested and for those interested in participating in Jihad and defines a clear legal background to do so. Divided in many different sections, the Mudschahidin frequently gave statements about their operations, such as the attack on the U.S. Consulate, these “after action reports” still exist on the internet, one of the last reports was released on 27.2.2006 after the Jihadis attacked an oil-site in the Saudi city Baqiq (Abqaiq).

The main theme throughout all the 29 issues (no.30 went online on 8.2.07) different authors command the removal of all infidel elements from the “land of the muslims”. This is a rhetoric which has spread since – throughout the internet which provides the global context. The year 2003 was not only startingpoint for most jihad activites in Saudi Arabia but it was the start of the Iraq war.

This call, to expell all infidel elements, has become a key element in the jihadi literature and ideology. SAG has empowered the legacy (wasiya) of the prophet, who, while on his deathbed, issued the order for all believers to “expell the mushrikin from the Arabian Peninsula.”

A Mushrik is a person whose belief to the one and only god is distracted – by what means ever, may that be by statues, pictures or saints. So the notion of “expelling the mushrikin” became the guideline to combat everything that had been and is defined as un-“islamic”. One of the most prominent figures who fought for the objective to “liberate the land of the two holy sites (Saudi Arabia)” was Abdal Aziz al-Muqrin. He was not only the leader of the al-Qa’ida on the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) but also frequently commented and wrote articles for the SAG. After abducting and beheading the american Paul Johnson in 2004, saudi authorities began hunting him down and started their campaign against AQAP. Although al-Muqrin was killed in a shoutout.

SAG served – again – as the communication device for the jihadis: not only had the execution of Johnson been filmed and posted on the internet, prior to the execution demands were issued and justifications were spread. After the death of al-Muqrin SAG immediately responded by making a statement about the “death of our brother al-Muqrin and his brothers”.

Not only the cited hadith of the Prophet, to “expell the mushrikin” is used to serve the purpose of the mujahidin but also the connection to the third Caliph Umar, who defined this statement, this testament, as an order to remove anyone who is not a muslim from the arab land. This notion regained popularity with the stationing of US troops prior to the second Gulf war 1991.

Al-Furqan: Roadsidebombing of a fuel-tanker

The al-Furqan media divison released a video today showing the roadsidebombing of a fuel-tanker in the vicinity of Baghdad. The video is not unusual but rare.

Some time last year, the Ansar as-Sunna released a video entitled “the Sword to cut the veins of the unbeliever” (al-battar li-qata’ sharaiyin al-kuffar) – which aims at destroying the fueltrucks and other supply lines. Regulary we find videos on the internet, especially from the Ansar as-Sunna, where trucks carrying 4×4 or Humvee vehicles are systematically aimed at or bombed by roadside explosives or are coming under fire by RPG assaults.

Unfortunately the outcome is devastating, of course it is hard to assess the actual damage done, but the quantity of filmed material is overwhelming – and the jihadi propagande is doing its part too. Some stills (Ansar as-Sunna):

Algeria: „The Hell of the Apostates”

Some time after the announcement that the GSPC has merged with al-Qa’ida a very professional made video surfaced in the internet by the title “The Hell of the Apostates, part 2”. Part 1 is of similar contend and has the identical layout, however part 2 is just way better made and consists only out of 1 file (464 mb).

After the February 14^th release of the series “the Shades of the Swords” I have found many similarities to the mentioned series “The Hell of the Apostates” – in both videos the same layout appears and it seems that the same person(s) have created these videos.

Therefore several examples:

This is a still from the latest video; after the ambush on a army unit, the Mujahidin have taken several weapons and ammunition as well as other equipment as booty. The booty is an important thing for the salafist, as they believe to follow Muhammads example and the quran (sura at-Tawba and al-Anfal) by doing so.

Also inbetween scenes there are overviews of what is to come. Here for example there is the title (explosion of two mines) and the following categories:

Whenever there is a clip or a scene of a new assault, there is always the seperator with the texy layout and information shown.

To compare that to the series “the Hell of the Apostates”:

Algeria: Tanzim al-Qa’ida fi-bilad al-maghreb al-islam airs new video

Tanzim al-Qa’ida bi-bilad al-maghrab al-islam broadcasts a new video (14.2.07):

“Ambush and five bombings”, from the series “shades of the swords”, has the same layout as an older movie, which had been aired after the “public merging” of the then called GSPC and al-Qa’ida (see post: Algeria: The Hell of the Apostates).

This jihadvideo must be seen in the context of the recent developments in Algeria:

In september 2006 the then called Groupe Salafiste pour la Predication et le Combat (GSPC) publicly announced their merging with al-Qa’ida. (see post: GSPC merges with al-Qa’ida, September 2006).
A bus, carrying a number of Halliburton workers, was bombed in an operation called “Bouchaoui-raid”. This video, 10.12.2006, was introduced with the old signature of the GSPC (see post: Algeria: Bouchaoui-raid)
The GSPC was renamed after sworing allegiance with al-Qa’ida on January 24^th (see post: GSPC changes their name).

This video shows, among other incidents, the roadside bombings of a troop transporter. The last two transporter stop, the first one seen in the picture obviously flees the scene – following the military verhicles which have already passed – the soldiers then start to leave the transport and take cover (red circle).

The caption reads: “The apostates during their gathering close to the second bomb.”

Picture No.3 shows the explosion of the second bomb – while the jihadis watch and film from a safe distance.

This is just a scene of the video. It starts with a Mujahidin unit heading to a firefight with the algerian army – after minutes of firefighting, several bodies are shown as the Mujiahdin collect weapons, munition and equipment (see also the comparison with the series “the Hell of the Apostates”).
